Jacob Deuchar - Director of Photography & Technical
Jacob is a filmmaker with more than 20 years experience in shooting a wide array of content from live events, through experimental shorts, documentary television and more recently feature films.
In 2002 throught 2006 he studied Film & Video Production in Derby where he chose to work predominently with 16mm Film and other celluloid media. During this time he worked with both hand-cranked, wind-up and electrical motor driven cameras from a range of manufacturers and a spectrum of time periods. From this he gained a great interest in building custom rigs and solutions to various unique shooting conditions presented by such equipment limitations.
After leaving University he worked free-lance for a couple of years covering several significant broadcast TV events including the 2005 UK general election campaign for the Official Monster Raving Loony Party as they competed for votes with former TV presenter Robert Kilroy-Silk in Erewash. He was to briefly return to broadcast covering the OMRLP campaign again in 2010.
Additionally, from 2006 until 2018 Jacob ran a sports and events photography franchise covering local, national and international events including those held by British Gymnastics, The Football Association, British Swimming and other significant bodies as their official photographer.
Jacob cites the works of Andrei Tarkovsky, Lars von Trier and David Lynch as major influences with a great interest in producing emotional, psychological and even neurological effects with light and motion as well as the beauty of the “lingering shot.”
